Sonoma Garden Park

Saturday 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Please join us for the first in a series of composting workshops taught by Bobby Nicholson of Compost Depot with the Sonoma Ecology Center (SEC). The workshops are funded by Zero Waste Sonoma (ZWS) and free to the public.

Let's get dirty! The workshop will provide practical guidelines and accessible soil science to build a healthy composting program on location with available resources and using a scalable model. Raymond Baltar of SEC will introduce the basics and science of biochar, including use of the flame cap kiln, and demonstrate the integration of biochar into a compost program. This will be a hands-on learning opportunity for farmers, agricultural producers, garden/greenhouse managers, and landscapers of all sizes. At the end of the workshop, attendees will have the resources and know-how to build a composting program on-site. The workshops will be bilingual, taught in English and Spanish.
