Luther Burbank Experiment Farm
Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
The Luther Burbank Experiment Farm will have docent-guided tours, self-guided tours, and plant sales available. The Burbank cottage will also be open, containing historic displays and a gift shop. This park preserves original Luther Burbank plants, searches out and propagates Burbank plants, and acts as a horticultural resource center.
Luther Burbank was a renowned plant breeder in the early 20th century whose work was instrumental in creating world-renowned new varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. He developed the Burbank russet potato, which continues to be the most popular variety used today. He also created the Santa Rosa plum, as well as many varieties of plumcots, grapes, and other fruit and vegetables. He also created the Shasta Daisy, now planted across the world.
The Experiment Farm is a unique living museum of his efforts, with Burbank-introduced flowers, plants, and trees and other examples of botanical history. Our docents are full of botanic and historic knowledge, and serve as wonderful informational guides on a level stroll through the park. Donations are gratefully accepted.
