Soapmaking Class with the Goat Farm

Farm Trails member Mindy Wright of the Goat Farm is teaching Beginning Cold Process Soapmaking at Santa Rosa Junior College. This hands on class will show you step by step how to make a batch of cold process soap from scratch. This traditional soapmaking method relies on saponification, or the chemical reaction of fatty acids with an alkali, to produce long-lasting natural soap bars. We will thoroughly cover the ingredients required, tools needed, and how to safely work with sodium hydroxide at home. We will also talk about different essentials oils you can use to scent soap, types of oils you can use and their unique characteristics, and ways to color your soaps. To register, click here.
