California Coastal Creek Cleanup Day

Please join Sonoma Ecology Center for a community cleanup along our beloved Sonoma Creek and help care for one of Sonoma Valley’s most important natural resources!
We’ll gather along Sonoma Creek beneath the Agua Caliente Bridge to remove trash and debris from the creek and surrounding areas. Litter can make its way into waterways, where it can degrade water quality, damage habitat, and pose risks to the fish, birds, insects, and other wildlife that depend on healthy creek ecosystems.
Keeping Sonoma Creek clean also helps ensure that this special place remains welcoming and enjoyable for everyone who visits, explores, and connects with nature along its banks. By lending a hand, you’ll be helping protect local wildlife, support a healthier watershed, and care for a creek that connects communities throughout Sonoma Valley.
DETAILS:
Volunteers ages 15 and up may participate.
Meeting location: We will gather at Agua Caliente Bridge from 9:00-11:00am. Parking is available at St. Leo’s Church (601 Agua Caliente Road West, Sonoma, CA 95476).
What to bring: Sturdy, close-toed boots or shoes with good traction; long pants and clothing appropriate for brush and uneven terrain; water; hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses; gloves, if you have a preferred pair.
Grabbers, trash bags, buckets, and some gloves will be provided. We will also serve light refreshments.
Please note: Access to the creek requires navigating steep slopes and uneven surfaces, and volunteers may encounter dense vegetation, slippery or unstable ground, and other natural obstacles. Homeless encampments may be present in the cleanup area, and sharp or hazardous debris–including broken glass, metal, and other discarded materials–may be encountered. Volunteers should be prepared to carefully navigate the area and follow all safety instructions from event leaders. Please do not participate if these conditions would pose a safety concern for you.
