Part 3: Holidays On the Farm Trails (Dec. 4-10)
Hearts are aglow here in Sonoma County. During this special time, local farmers & producers are offering unique holiday invitations to you and yours during Holidays Along the Farm Trails, now through New Year's. Spend an afternoon learning a new craft, taste the local bounty, or shop for holiday gifts among handmade products including olive oil, jams, honey, soaps, wreaths, and so much more.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, join Chef Daniel Kedan of Backyard at Wind & Rye in Penngrove for "Sophisticated Sauces", a cooking class on preparing more than six different sauces that will bring your plates to the next level. Snacks & beverages are included, plus take sauce home for your next home cooked meal. ($100; Reservations are required: http://bit.ly/saucesclass)
On Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 16, join herbalists from Rainbow End's Farm for a hands-on class, ''How to blend herbs for good tasting tea'' ($20/person; RSVP Required).
Take a fragrance & aromatherapy workshop at Monte-Bellaria di California on Saturday & Sunday. Learn about bees and taste estate grown olive oil. Plus, shop for Organic distilled lavender products and olive oil for holiday gifts.
TOURS & EXPERIENCES:
On Dec. 9th, join Tara Firma Farms for a holiday BBQ (RSVP required: http://bit.ly/TaraFirmaBBQ)! Visit the animals and shop the farmstore! Every Saturday & Sunday at 12pm join them for a free farm tour. Visit the new piglets, cows, chickens, ducks, & goats, and learn about how their farming practices benefit the environment. Farm store open everyday, 10-6.
At Hector's Honey Farm, shop the farmstand for gifts and fresh produce. Taste their wildflower honey, and on Thursdays at 11am take a free tour of their small family farm to visit the farm animals, beehives, and winter garden.
Great for the whole family, Glenhill Farm & Gardens, offers a petting zoo with zebus (pictured above), lambs, goats, horses and a pig named Charlotte. Guests can purchase a pail of treats to feed the animals for $1.00. The train that was formerly at Howarth Park now resides at the farm as well. Parents will love the farmstand with organic produce and great gift ideas including wool pillows from the farm.
Tour Full House Farm Saturday at 10am, call to reserve ($20/adult, $10/child). Enjoy the acres of wild land, the organic garden, meet the dairy goats and the chickens.
On Saturdays, take a garden tour at Cumbria Garden and learn about organic growing practices and ''super compost''. Farmstand will be open with proceeds being donated to local non-profits.
At Horse & Plow Winery, enjoy a special Farm Trails flight ($12-$18), featuring local cheese, bread, and apples paired with their Centennial hopped cider, Sauv Blanc and Pinot Noir. Even the hops are local!
At Bohemian Creamery take a tour & learn about cheesemaking, Saturday at 12pm and Sundays at 1pm ($20/adults, kids are free!). The cheese shop is also open for cheese tasting & holiday shopping.
On Tuesday & Thursday, join Laguna Farm for "Gifts From The Farm" and create your own gift basket with farm fresh ingredients. They have all the supplies for you to create a local, farm-fresh gift.
Looking for a unique gift for the cook in your family? Pick up heirloom polenta, exotic dried chiles, heirloom beans, and more at Tierra Vegetables. You are welcome to stroll through the fields at the farm and ask questions.
Oak Hill Farm has a fabulous farmstand with not only sustainable grown produce, but also lovely handmade wreaths and other unique gifts.
Sonoma County's largest antique collective, the Antique Society features over 125 dealers under one roof. Open every day! This is a fabulous place to spend a wintry afternoon shopping for unique gifts for loved ones, or for your own kitchen and home.
