Region: Sonoma Valley

Sonoma is renowned for its beautiful Spanish architecture and charismatic downtown square. The legacy of ranching in the Sonoma Valley stretches back centuries to when the town was first founded by Spanish settlers as Mission San Francisco Solano along El Camino Real. Before that, the Pomo lived on the fertile soil, calling the valley bounded by mountains the Valley of the Moon.

Today, the agricultural scene throughout the valley is diverse, with a variety of soil types supporting nearly every type of produce imaginable. Perennials thrive, with olive orchards, Christmas tree groves, citrus trees, strawberries, lavender fields, and of course wine grapes dotting the landscape. Livestock is also plentiful: a variety of dairy animals (sheep, cows, goats) provide delicious cheeses, and fiber farms full of sheep and alpacas produce luscious woolen yarns for knitting.
