FREE EVENT: September 29 and 30, 2012
On Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 from 10 am to 4 pm farmers from Petaluma to Healdsburg will be dusting off their hats, putting out the welcome mats and opening their barn doors to tell behind-the scenes stories of Sonoma County agriculture and local foods. Dozens of farms, artisanal producers, wineries and agriculture-based businesses will host a weekend of tours, hands-on demonstrations, food tasting and product sales. From hay rides to cheese making, visitors will have a first-hand opportunity to experience life on the farm and meet the farmers, vintners and artisans who produce some of Sonoma County’s finest food and agricultural products.
Admission is free to most stops: all you need is transportation and a map to chart your agricultural adventure. Note: maps given here are for reference. Please use a trusted map source or GPS to get detailed directions. Links to Google maps are provided.
As the event draws closer, we will provide a detailed list of member farms and related businesses that are offering special activities on Saturday and Sunday, September 29 & 30. We will also publish links to customized Google maps to show you where each of the farms and businesses are located. You’ll also be able to link directly to the participants’ websites.
Each farm is unique, often featuring certain breeds of animals or specialty crops. There will likely be several u-pick opportunities, including pumpkins, apples, and strawberries. Our nurseries and farm stores typically offer classes and sales as part of our Fall Tour. And for those interested in wine tasting, you should visit at least one of our member wineries.
We encourage you to look over the options, visit the participants’ page on our website (or in our Map & Guide) to learn more about them, select the ones you would most like to visit, and plot your route accordingly. Remember that the hours for visitors from 10 am to 4 pm, and double-check the descriptions to make sure your chosen destinations are open on the day you’d like to visit (some members are only open Saturday OR Sunday).
